First harvest of Fenugreek!!

Yay! Harvested the fenugreek (Methi) finally and enjoyed it very much.

So this year we are having a long winter and this affected my first attempt at gardening. I planted a few fenugreek seeds during February end and then as soon as they germinated kept them outside.

So even after 2 weeks had passed the plants were not growing. They still remained at a seedling level. So again brought them back inside and after that they just thrived.

So lesson learnt. The fenugreek seeds required a frost free atmosphere to grow. Also I learnt that I had planted too many seeds in the container and should have used a bit more deep container. But in spite of all these things got a very good harvest.

It took me more than a month to harvest the Methi but with good temperatures it will take a month or so.

Sowing date : 26Feb 2013
Harvesting date: 14 April 2013

Made a dry vegetable out of it. Will post a recipe soon. So will leave with the harvest photo.

My first post and plant!

Last Week I attended a small workshop on "Vegetable Gardening" in Amsterdam. Vegetable gardening had been on my mind for a very long time. But I did not have space then and did not dare to do it inside the house as my first attempt.

So armed with some knowledge about how to plant seeds and take care of them, I think I am on a fantastic thrilling journey of exploring , experiencing. So come and join me while we learn together.

As my first attempt I planted the seeds of "fenugreek" ,methi in Hindi which is my most favorite vegetable. Fenugreek can be started in early spring. It is the most easiest plant to grow. I bought a packet of seeds from a organic shop. But you can buy the seeds in any Indian shop.

I used plastic containers which I had at home. Make a few holes in them for drainage and filled them up with mud.You can also use foil tins or any pot lying around.
Then just sprinkle the seeds in a random fashion. Take care to sprinkle a lot many seeds.
Again cover the seeds the with some soil and then water them. You are done. Water the seeds daily and wait for them to sprout. Here I have two pots planted . One is prepared by my daughter who is now eagerly waiting for them to sprout. Keeping my fingers crossed. Hope our first attempt goes well.
